# How to Manage Orders in a Food Truck

Window queues do not wait for someone to shout “Priya’s burger”—they move as 21, 22, 23. Food-truck service needs numbered parcel tickets, no dining tables at all, and usually one phone because there is nowhere to park a full counter system. Billing-app shopping for Indian trucks is a separate page; [simple billing and order app for food trucks in India](https://spooncub.com/content/simple-billing-and-order-app-for-food-trucks-in-india/index.md) covers that buy list. Here the scene is the queue itself.

## The queue moves faster than names

Names blur when the line is loud and multilingual. Numbers stay sharp: take the order, assign the next number, prep, call the number, hand the bag, close the ticket. Completed orders store items, amount, payment mode, and time so the owner can filter history by date after the event ends. Staff mark UPI, Cash, Card, or Other at the window—record only, not a payment gateway.

- Next number is clearer than shouting first names
- Each bag has its own completed ticket
- Payment mode is marked before the next guest orders
- History by date rebuilds the event without paper slips

## No tables, still a ticket

Absence of chairs does not mean absence of orders. Parcel tickets are the whole system: optional reference can be the called number, several can stay open while grills catch up, and none of them occupy a dining-table slot that does not exist. Mixing “mental notes” for three open bags is how trucks double-serve or skip a paid guest. One ticket per number keeps the hatch honest.

## One phone, little space

Trucks have power limits and almost no shelf depth. A staff PWA on a phone fits a pocket or a tiny clamp; a kitchen display, inventory tower, e-invoice printer farm, or diner QR stand does not. Summary can compare a period and list top items by quantity when you review which festival days moved which SKUs—still built from those numbered completes.

**Start a 7-day free trial and run one service window with numbered parcel tickets on a single phone.**

Train the caller and the cook on the same list. When 22 is ready, the ticket shows what 22 ordered; when 22 pays, the ticket closes. That loop is the entire truck OS. Fancy modules that need a back office will not fit the van and will not speed the line.

After the event, filter history to that date and read what closed—items, amount, payment mode, and time. Soft cash against UPI becomes visible without reconstructing the night from memory. That audit is why every number deserves a completed row, even when the line feels too fast to bother. Owners who skip closes during the rush pay for it later when the till and the story of the night no longer match.

**Hand the next guest a number, keep that parcel ticket open until the bag leaves, and mark payment before you call the following number.**
