Table 4 already had a plate of rotis on the ticket when the guest waved for a cold drink. Nobody wants to buy a counter PC just to remember that drink. The real need is a running list tied to the table so the next person who walks over knows what is already on the bill and what still needs cooking.
The second round on Table 4
Second rounds are where paper slips break. The first slip may already be on the pass; the drink request may live on a napkin; the waiter who took the first order may be off the floor. One open order per dining table fixes that habit: reopen Table 4, tap the drink, save. The ticket stays the same ticket. Guests do not get two bills for one sitting, and staff stop asking “did we already write the cola?”
A phone standing in for the terminal
A staff phone or PWA can stand in for a bulky terminal when the only job is remembering the table. Choose the table, tap categories, add items, leave the order open until payment. Parcel tickets stay separate with an optional reference so takeaway never steals a table name. Checkout still records UPI, Cash, Card, or Other; if GST is configured, the breakup can appear after discount, and staff mark paid themselves. The UPI QR is display only.
What stays off the hardware list
Keeping table memory on a phone does not mean installing inventory, recipe costing, e-invoicing, or diner QR ordering. Those belong to different problems. You also do not replace delivery apps you already use. The hardware you skip is the dedicated counter machine bought only to store “Table 4 has rotis plus one cold drink.”
Questions about printers, drawers, and counter billing hardware are covered in can I run restaurant billing without buying a POS machine. That page is about billing gear; this one is about not losing Table 4’s second round.

When the shift changes mid-meal
Handover is quieter when the open order is visible. The evening waiter does not need a whispered summary of Table 4. They open the table, see items and running total, and continue. History filtered by date helps if a dispute appears the next morning; Summary shows today’s collection and payment split when you are ready to count the till.
Proof you did not need the PC
If staff can reopen tables, add items in seconds, and close with a payment mode without standing at a fixed terminal, the POS machine was never the requirement—table tracking was.
Buying a terminal just to remember what a table ordered is the wrong purchase.
Keep the list where the waiter walks
Put the running order on the device that moves with the floor. SpoonCub is built for that staff-phone workflow: one order per table, parcels aside, checkout marks, and a day view when you need totals.
